Research the company and your way into it
Knowing what a company does is different from knowing how your team is connected to it. Useful account research needs both: the business context and the history of the people you already know.
A LinkedIn MCP workflow for Grok can bring relationship information from an authorised connection into that research. Cold focuses on the context behind your network, helping you frame questions about who you know and how the relationship began.
Grok supports custom MCP connectors
Grokโs connector documentation includes custom MCP connections as well as built-in and catalog connectors. Custom connectors expose the tools provided by the connected service. Business and Enterprise accounts require an administrator to provision connectors for the team.
This establishes the platformโs connection route, not an official Cold listing or an end-to-end compatibility test. Start from Cold MCP to check the connection available to your account, then confirm which tools Grok can actually use.
Begin with the relationships in Cold
Try: โUse the available Cold context to find people at Performa AI whom I or my team know. For each person, show the role, who knows them, our last meaningful interaction and the source supporting that relationship.โ
Ask for a short list, not a broad export. The aim is to find the person with a relevant relationship and understand why they might be a good starting point. The company and names here are illustrative.
Keep public research and private history separate
If you also use Grokโs research tools, ask for two clearly labelled sections: public company context and relationship context from Cold. Include source dates for both. This makes it easier to see what the company has announced and what your team has actually discussed.
Do not treat a public announcement as evidence that your contact has a budget or wants to buy. A job change or product launch can suggest a question to ask; the relationship history should determine how you approach it.
Find the right introduction
Follow up with: โWhich existing relationship gives us the most credible route to this team? Explain the evidence, identify what we still need to confirm and draft a short note asking the introducer whether they would be comfortable connecting us.โ
An introduction path should be grounded in a real interaction. Ask Grok to say when it cannot establish relationship strength. A shared employer, mutual connection or similar job title is not enough on its own.
Check the connection before relying on the answer
Use a contact you know to verify that Grok is retrieving the intended Cold context. If the result contains only public facts, ask which connected tools were used and whether the relationship record was found.
Available sources and actions depend on the connection and your permissions. Do not assume that Grokโs access to other information gives it access to LinkedIn messages, Sales Navigator or private account data. Those require their own supported access route.
Move from a researched account to a relevant conversation
The useful outcome is a short account note: what is happening, who you know, why that relationship matters and what to ask next. Keep the evidence visible and review any outreach before taking action.
